Hello I am
Nina Koninckx

Welcome to my company website, happy to have you. You're likely here if you need a developer, esports professional or Twitch streamer. Feel free to take a look around, and don't be shy to leave an inquiry using the contact form or via my socials.

Nina: Welcome

About Me

I've been fiddling with computers since I was six years old figuring out how to start a game in MS DOS while my parents were not home. This is the spark that started it all and I've been at it ever since.

My programming passions lie in the frontend but I am a full stack Java developer. Aside from developing I am also a Twitch streamer and active in the professional esports community.

Work History

Frontend dev @
MC2BIS

August 2016 - October 2016

My first project in the professional scene. I worked as a junior alongside my colleagues to create a frontend for Lynxcare. The software was designed to make communication between a patient and doctor quick, easy and painless.

This was a project completely written in Javascript with a backend in NodeJS, and AngularJS frontend and a MongoDB as datasource.

NCO @
Belgian Defense

October 2016 - January 2018

Another one of my dreams as a child was to be a soldier in the army. Staying true to myself is important to me and so I followed my dream. After a good year of training I was promoted to the rank of sergeant using my degree as a leg up. During my time at the army I learned discipline, leadership skills and most importantly camaraderie. I also co-created software designed to replace the internal post system.

This was a complete Java application using ZK as a frontend and Spring in the back.

Flemish Gov.

January 2018 - January 2019

More specifically the study grants system. We poured the many rulesets and validations into a structural piece of code connecting the many dots to check if a student should or shouldn't get a grant. This system was old, complex and running on Java 7 upgraded from 6. It taught me a lot on how to deal with monoliths and legacy and how to upgrade an app to Java 8.

This was a project written in Java using version 7 in some places and 8 in others. The frontend was written in Apache Wicket and communicated using JSP.

VDAB

January 2019 - September 2019

At VDAB I got a varied amount of tasks and my first experience as a scrum master. I was project lead and SPO for the SMP application which was a legacy monolith that we deconstructed into many micro applications. This turned the monolith into a more tameable application and created a lot of green field apps for junior developers to be trained on by seniors and mediors. I was scrum master for 3 months and project lead for 2 weeks during the absence of the normal project lead.

These projects were all based in Java with the Spring framework. The monolith was upgraded from Java 7 to Java 8. The micro apps were all made using Spring Boot. The databases were all Oracle SQL servers.

Acerta

September 2019 - March 2021

Acerta was a strange landscape with old server technology that needed a lot of specific expertise that could not be found. And so I was sent in to help, the software being used was Redhat Jboss Fuse with Fabric8 to run the containerized applications. Aside from the applications that ran on Fuse we had the Connector application that was made to take in customer reports, validate the contents and send them to the mainframe for processing. During my time the mainframe was replaced by more durable Java applications and our application evolved with it.

The projects all ran in Java 8 and had very robust tests courtesy of my colleague. We also replaced all of the complex Postman tests with readable and easier to maintain Cucumber tests that tested the entire stack in a flash.

KBC Deals app

March 2021 - July 2021

KBC Deals had a great app and an even better team. I came in during the great redesign and this is the challenge I had been looking for. I love frontend and this was mostly that, besides the beautiful Angular app that runs in the front end we have a very zippy Spring Boot 2 app that runs in an OpenShift container. Sadly it was around this time I became an consultant at Glassfox and I couldn't take this customer with me. So I moved on.

Full stack @ Cipal

July 2021 - May 2022

Cipal was a project that focused on HR for the Belgian government agencies and municipalities. The first few months I refactored the frontend to update it to the latest Angular version and cleaned up the frontend and integration tests that were mostly broken. After that I was assigned to the bugetting engine. What made me move on was a lack of interest in the domain combined with the lack of challenge and the fact that the team was split into two parts seated in two different offices.

Full stack @ Fluvius

May 2022 - present

Fluvius was running out of hardware and contracted new companies to deliver them more. This new hardware is of course not compatible with the current software. So they were looking for a senior dev to come help make this compatible again. My focus right now is on that, but with the upcoming changes to the Belgian laws regarding power usages will bring many challenges in the forseeable future.
